Gainghat (Udayapur), Aug 8: The biggest cement factory in the country located at Jaljale of Udayapur has shut down following a technical glitch.
Udayapur Cement Factory’s cement churning mill has remained dysfunctional for the past two weeks bringing to a grinding halt the production of cement, according to the Factory’s employees.
The Factory has incurred a loss amounting to around Rs 100 million in two weeks of shutdown, Assistant Manager Naval Kishor Sah said.
The mill’s gear chain broke down and has to be taken to India for repair, according to employees. Four months ago the industry suffered a loss of Rs 200 million after the same machine broke down and the factory remained closed for 25 days.
The state-owned Udayapur Cement Factory established in 2044 BS with the help of Japanese government is the second largest cement factory in Asia and first in Nepal. It produces 800 metric tons of cement per day. RSS
