Election will help secure rights of marginalized groups


Chitwan, June 24: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, Bhim Bahadur Rawal, today affirmed the demand of the marginalized groups would be addressed along with the local body elections.
Inaugurating the Fourth National General Convention of Nepal Chepang Association (NCA) here, DPM Rawal made an assurance that the rights of the marginalized groups would be secured after the local body elections.
Underscoring the government’s resolve on holding the election on the stipulated timeframe, DPM Rawal urged all parties to lend support in implementing the new constitution.
The government is determined to reach out to the Chepang settlements with access to necessary educational infrastructure, health and road network, the DPM Rawal added. He said that the overall development of the country would be possible only if the marginalized communities were uplifted.
At the programme, Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) Chairman, Nagendra Kumal, called for reorienting the focus on the fact that none of the past governments had proven to become an example in supporting the indigenous nationalities.
The General Convention will conclude by choosing a new working committee. The total population of the members of the marginalized Chepang community stands at 70,000. RSS
