Absconding accused shot at in Bijuli bazaar


Kathmandu, June 23: A man wanted by police on the charge of involvement in murder was shot at by police after he fired at a police team that had gone to arrest him.

The incident took place at Bijulibazaar in the heart of the capital in broad daylight this afternoon. As a result, the accused Jaswanta Rai suffered bullet wounds to his knees and thigh. Rai was subsequently arrested and is now undergoing treatment at Bir Hospital. “Rai was shot at after he opened fire at the police personnel, who were trying to take him into custody”, Chief of the Metropolitan Crime Division Superintendent of Police Sarbendra Khanal said.

Following the incident, four to five accomplices of accused Rai managed to escape in motorcycles, police said. Rai is reportedly facing five different cases of public offense including an attempt to murder.

Presently living in Bafal area, Rai is said to have been involved in hooliganism and extorting businessmen and alike from Kalimati to Baneswar area. RSS
