500 earthquake ‘survivors’ gather Sindhupalchowk DAO seeking loss identity

Melamchi, June 12: Around some 500 earthquake survivors today staged demonstrations in front of the District Administration Office (DAO), Sindhupalchowk and the Reconstruction Office, in protest against exclusion of their name in the final survey of the disaster losses conducted by the government.
People from Badegaun, Nawalpur, Kunchowk, Bhotsipa, Sipapokhare and Simpal Kavre VDCs gathered in front of the Sindhupalchowk DAO and Reconstruction Office, demanding their names be included in the final loss assessment list, according to Shekharnath Lamichhane of Badegaun-3. They are submitting a memorandum to Nepal Reconstruction Authority ( NRA) Chief Sushil Gyawali , drawing the NRA attention towards their demands. The memorandum will be sent to the NRA Chief through the respective Chief District Officer.
The agitating side has said that they would continue their protests until demands were addressed. It may be noted that Sindhupalchowk remains as one of the district among 14 worst hit by last year’s Gorkha earthquake followed by two strong aftershocks including one with an epicentre in Sindhupalchowk.
