Jajarkot, June 27: A 12-year-old boy who sustained serious injuries to head after falling from a tree five days ago has been deprived of proper medical treatment due to lack of money.
Laxman BK of Bherimalika Municipality -2 fell from a tree while foraging for fodder. He is currently admitted at the Jajarkot Hospital and in a state of coma. BK, who studies in Grade 5 of Vishnu Secondary School, has not regained consciousness since the accident.
The 12-year-old was rushed to Nepalgunj Medical College following the mishap but was discharged from the medical college as Rs 20,000 collected in fund from villagers did not suffice for his further treatment.
His mother Ratikala BK said the family decided to take the boy home after the hospital stated the daily expense for treatment would cost Rs 5,000. “The hospital discharged the boy after our money collected in fund ran out,” Ratikala shared.
“How can I treat him?” the mother questioned with a forlorn look in her eyes. “We do not have land to sell it, and no source of income,” she shared. She added that she has been rearing five children through earnings made from manual works.
“The doctor did not accept our proposal for treatment on credit and discharged our unconscious child,” she said.
Ratikala said she admitted her child at Jajarkot Hospital with hopes for any kind of treatment. The boy’s father, Dhan Bahadur, had left for India in search of employment two months ago.
Meanwhile, Dr Sunil Pun said the hospital does not have any means to bring the child back into consciousness. RSS
