Pilgrim dies on way to Gosaikunda

Melamchi, Aug 17: A pilgrim heading towards the high altitude and mystic Gosaikunda lake for a holy bath on the occasion of Janai Purnima festival died on Tuesday evening.
Subash Bhetwal, 33, of Paanchkhaal Municipality – 17 of Kavrepalanchowk district collapsed suddenly while travelling on foot through the Kutumsang area of Ichowk VDC – 9 which borders Nuwakot district. He died on the spot, Area Police Office Melamchi Inspector Niraj Dangi said.
Although the information related to the incident was received on Tuesday evening the police along with the deceased’s relatives left for the site only at 4 am this morning due to torrential rainfall.
The police have appealed to the public to use garlic, ginger and pepper and not drink cold water as people travelling on high altitude landscapes such as Gosaikunda are prone to High Altitude Sickness due to less oxygen level. RSS
