Janakpur, June 28: A significant number of unskilled manpower leave the country every year for the global labour market, putting their lives at risk, participants of a pogramme organised here Monday said.
Taking part in an interaction programme on ‘safe migration’ organised by the Sahakarya Nepal for Community Development and a local Nayuwa Saraswoti Club, the participants said Nepali migrant workers were being cheated and exploited as they lacked proper knowledge about their works and conditions. According to data, some 74 per cent unskilled human resources leave the country every year for abroad jobs.
In view of Nirmal Thapa, Director of Foreign Employment Promotion Board, Nepali migrant workers are falling prey to traffickers as they are not well informed about foreign employment, skills required for it and other terms and conditions.
There are some 5 million Nepali migrant workers alone in India. Lack of transparency in supplying of workers to the global labour market by manpower agencies is one of the major reasons making foreign employment gradually unsafe, the participants said. Some 85 per cent Nepali are going for abroad jobs without taking job permit which causes problems in their rescue in need. RSS
