Government has clear roadmap for safeguarding, implementing statute


Biratnagar, June 21: Minister for Information and Communications Sherdhan Rai has said the government was moving ahead with a clear map for safeguarding constitution, enforcing it and meeting the people’s aspirations.
Taking part in a press meet organised by Press Chautari Nepal, Morang here today, Government Spokesperson Rai said the government had unveiled a schedule to execute mandates given by the constitution.
“The government is committed to holding the local, provincial and federal elections of local bodies, provinces and the federal elections within the planned date,” he said adding that formulation of new laws and acts demanded by the new constitution and establishment of constitutional commissions were the priorities of the government.
Calling upon the Madhes centric parties not to make their demand for rewriting the constitution a ‘bottom line’ and be serious towards finding a way out to the nation gripped by problems.
Stating that most of the demands of the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), an alliance of Madhesi parties unhappy with some provisions in the new constitution, have been met, Minister Rai said there was the high level political committee to look into remaining demands.
The government has welcomed the UDMF decision to sit for talks with the government to discuss their agenda. RSS
