Kathmandu, June 23: The Informal Sector Services Centre (INSEC) Nepal today congratulated rights activist Ms Bandana Rana for being elected member of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). It had also wished her a successful tenure ahead.
Issuing a statement, INSEC Nepal Chairperson Subodh Pyakurel had expressed the confidence that Rana would do her best in the field of women’s rights during her stint in the CEDAW Committee. Rana was elected as member of the UN CEDAW Committee in elections held in the UN Headquarters in New York on June 21.
Rana is the first Nepali to be elected as the member of UN CEDAW Committee. Earlier, the government had nominated human rights lawyer Sapana Pradhan Malla to the UN CEDAW Committee but she failed to secure enough votes to be elected. RSS
