Bus plunges downhill leaving two with serious injuries


Baitadi, June 19: A passenger bus skidded off the road and fell 30 meters below injuring at least six persons after its driver allegedly dozed off in Baitadi this morning.

Among the injured, Bhojraj Joshi, 60, of Rim locality of Baitadi and Chandra Dhami, 28, of Api Municipality, Darchula sustained critical injuries.

Joshi suffered serious injuries to his head and leg while Dhami sustained injuries to the head and mouth, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mohan Prasad Pokharel of District Police Office, Baitadi. Both of them were rushed to Kailali for treatment.

The bus (Na 5 Kha 4565) en route to Darchula from Mahendranagar met with the accident at 3:45 am in Thad locality of Patan Municipality – 7, Baitadi.

Police have detained the bus driver Bharat Bhatta, 32, of Jhalari Pipaladi Municipality of Kanchanpur.

The bus was carrying 17 passengers at the time of mishap. The passengers with minor injuries are being treated at a local hospital while others escaped unscathed. RSS
